How does normal hair grow?
Hair is made up from a shaft and a root. The hair that you see on your skin is the shaft, you are unable to see the root as it is buried in the skin. At the lower end of this root is a swelling called the hair bulb which is surrounded by a socket called a hair follicle. The hair grows up from the root and emerges from the skin. Each hair follicle has three phases:-

  1. 1. A growth phase where the hair grows in strength
  2. A resting phase
  3. A shedding phase where the hair falls out.

This is known as the normal growth cycle. In this way hairs are continually grown and replaced throughout an individuals life, and at any one time, different hairs will be at different stages of the growth cycle.

Is hair distribution the same in everyone?
No. The distribution of body hair is largely genetically determined, as is the amount of hair. It can vary according to familial or racial characteristics. European Women tend to be fairer than women of an Asian or Mediterranean background who will grow darker, thicker hair.

What methods of hair removal are available (otherwise known as depilation).
There are many methods of depilation which present their own problems. Plucking, waxing and electrolysis are painful, shaving and depilatory creams can be messy. Many need to be done frequently and treatment can often take a long time. Due to a major breakthrough in technology, a new method is available, which in many cases appears to be far superior.

What is hirsuitism?
This is an excessive growth of hair . Sometimes it can be due to some medical conditions, but is often due to racial or familial characteristics as already mentioned. The presence of hair in certain regions of the body may be acceptable to some people but not to others, who would prefer to have it removed.

What type of machine is used?
The Epilight tm System. This is a broad wavelength Intense Pulsed Light System. It is not a laser and due to the patented technology, adjustments to the treatment parameters can be made to suit each particular client. The machine has been fully approved by the F.D.A. The combination of various light wavelengths, pulses and pulse duration working through a quartz crystal enable the long term permanent reduction of all types of hair.

How does the treatment work?
Epilight tm generates intense pulsed light that safely disables hair follicles to impair growth without damaging the surrounding skin. Before treatment a cool gel is applied to the skin. A hand held treatment head is placed on the gel and light pulses are delivered through a rectangular crystal which acts as a light guide. The light is converted to heat when it is absorbed by the melanin in the hair follicle. Once it reaches the required temperature, the targeted hair structures are destroyed and hair growth is impaired. As the light pulse reaches the follicle, a sensation of mild stinging is felt, similar to the snap of a rubber band. The growing hairs will then fall out immediately or within 2 weeks of treatment.

How many treatments are needed?
It is the actively growing hair that is targeted during treatment. Due to the normal growth cycle it is necessary to carry out 3 to 6 treatments to achieve the desired results, although some clients will find they may need less. Evidence has shown that hairs treated in other growth stages will grow back more slowly and appear much finer in texture.

Can all areas of the body be treated?
Yes the treatment is ideal for all areas of the face and body, male and female. It is non- invasive and large areas can be treated at a time. The treatment is quick and relatively pain free. The Epilight treats hundreds of hairs simultaneously. In a few minutes the Epilight can treat an area which would take more than an hour with electrolysis.

Can all skin types be treated?
By filtering out rays which are harmful to the skin, the Epilight system just destroys the hair. This enables us to treat most skin types

Are there any after effects following treatment?
A slight reddening of the skin may be apparent after treatment, but this usually subsides within 24 hours. In a small percentage of clients blistering or peeling may occur, this rarely requires specific treatment and will usually clear within a few days.

What are the costs likely to be?
Treatment costs can be as little as £40 for one treatment. The cost will be discussed at the initial free consultation There is no obligation for you to undergo treatment. We accept Credit cards and have many different payment plans.

Is the treatment safe?
Yes there is no evidence whatsoever that the treatment can lead to any disorders. For millions of men and women who suffer from unwanted hair this may be a dream come true.
